CALL TO BOYCOTT RUSSIA’S WAR MACHINE
UWC is deeply disappointed by the Canadian government’s decision to bow to pressure by German authorities and other allies to circumvent sanctions established by global democracies. The Canadian government’s decision to grant Siemens Canada a revocable, time-limited permit to allow the repaired Nordstream 1 turbines to return to Germany is an act of surrender to Russia’s energy blackmail at the expense of Ukraine’s energy security and tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives.
By granting this waiver to Siemens, Canada has undermined the efficacy of the sanctions regime intended to stop Russia’s war machine. This act will set a dangerous precedent that will lead to continued Russian blackmail and further weakening of international sanctions.
UWC is dismayed that Germany is rejecting the reasonable alternative of obtaining increased gas supply through the Ukrainian pipeline which has the capacity and was previously a source of supply. UWC is urging the German government to reconsider and not return this turbine to Gazprom.
“We call upon Siemens to stand firm, lead by example, and maintain sanctions against Russia and its enablers like Gazprom in order to help end the war which continues to wreak massive death and destruction on the Ukrainian people. As an energy company with such impressive capabilities, Siemens must demonstrate to the world how the power of innovation can overcome the power of tyranny,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.
ЗАКЛИК ДО БОЙКОТУ РОСІЙСЬКОЇ ВОЄННОЇ МАШИНИ
СКУ глибоко розчарований рішенням канадського уряду піддатися тиску німецької влади та інших союзників, щоб обійти санкції, встановлені світовими демократіями. Рішення канадського уряду надати Siemens Canada обмежений у часі дозвіл із можливістю відкликання на повернення відремонтованих турбін Nordstream 1 до Німеччини є актом капітуляції перед енергетичним шантажем Росії за рахунок енергетичної безпеки України та десятків тисяч життів українців.
Надаючи Siemens таку відмову, Канада підірвала ефективність режиму санкцій, покликаного зупинити російську військову машину. Цей акт створить небезпечний прецедент, який призведе до продовження російського шантажу та подальшого послаблення міжнародних санкцій.
UWC стурбований тим, що Німеччина відкидає розумну альтернативу отримання збільшення поставок газу через український трубопровід, який має потужність і раніше був джерелом постачання. UWC закликає уряд Німеччини переглянути і не повертати цю турбіну «Газпрому».
«Ми закликаємо Siemens стояти непохитно, подавати приклад і підтримувати санкції проти Росії та її постачальників, таких як «Газпром», щоб допомогти покласти край війні, яка продовжує сіяти масову смерть і руйнування українського народу. Як енергетична компанія з такими вражаючими можливостями, Siemens має продемонструвати світові, як сила інновацій може подолати силу тиранії», – заявив президент UWC Пол Ґрод.

Therefore, “UWC is deeply disappointed by the Canadian government’s decision”. What could have happened that the UWC, which for decades has been in close contact with the Canadian government at the official and unofficial levels, could not keep the situation under control and let something happen that led to its disappointment? The question is non-rhetorical, and the world Ukrainians would like to have an answer to it.
Отже, «СКУ глибоко розчарований рішенням канадського уряду». Що могло статися такого, що СКУ, який упродовж десятиліть мав тісні контакти з урядом Канади на офіційному й неофіційному рівнях, не зміг втримати під контролем ситуацію й допустив таке, що довело його до розчарування? Запитання нериторичне, і світове українство хотіло б мати на нього відповідь.
