Забутий в Україні, шанований в Америці
Капітан ГУР МО України, киянин, Євген Костюченко. Один із кращих офіцерів воєнної розвідки України у боротьбі із міжнародною організованою злочиністтю і корупцією у 90-х роках. Вільно володів англійською, арабською і фарсі мовами.
Системний аналітик і офіцер связку Комітету з питань розвідки при Президентові Украіни із ФБР США по справі колишнього прем’єр-міністра Лазаренка. Після ліквідації цього напряму роботи в ГУР МО у 2000 році, звільнення і переслідування усіх офіцерів, «пов’язаних з колишнім проамериканським керівництвом воєнної розвідки», виїхав в США.
Невдовзі, після навчання, став першим заступником Шеріфа у графстві Вентура в Каліфорнії, де загинув при виконанні службових обовязків. Посмертно нагороджений вищою поліцейскою нагородою США. На його честь названий участок дороги, де він загинув. Кожний рік у день його загибелі офіцерами його управління проводиться урочиста церемонія заміна прапора США на флагштоці над містом його загибелі.
В ГУР МО забутий. Не отримав жодної, навіть відомчої нагороди. На святкуванні 30-ї річниці створення воєнної розвідки Украіни його ім’я не було згадане. Його батьки, які живуть у Києві, також забуті… До них приїзжають лише товариші Євгена із Управління Шеріфа графства Вентура із Каліфорнії…

Forgotten in Ukraine, remembered in America
Yevhen Kostuchenko, captain of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, from Kyiv. One of the best military intelligence officers of Ukraine in the fight against international organized crime and corruption in the 90s. He was fluent in English, Arabic and Farsi.
Systems analyst and liaison officer of the Intelligence Committee under the President of Ukraine with the US FBI in the case of former Prime Minister Lazarenko. After the elimination of this line of work in the GUR of the Ministry of Defense in 2000, the dismissal and persecution of all officers “connected with the former pro-American leadership of military intelligence,” he left for the United States.
Shortly after graduation, he became the first Deputy Sheriff in Ventura County, California, where he died in the line of duty. Posthumously awarded the highest police award of the USA. The section of the road where he died is named in his honor. Every year on the day of his death, the officers of his command hold a solemn ceremony to replace the US flag on the flagpole above the city of his death.
He is forgotten in GUR. He did not receive a single award, not even a departmental award. At the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the creation of military intelligence of Ukraine, his name was not mentioned. His parents, who live in Kyiv, are also forgotten… Only Yevhen’s friends from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office from California come to visit them…
