Belarus is carrying out military ‘exercises’ on Ukrainian border. This is clearly preparation for a new invasion in support of Russia. Desperate for new troops to send into the war Putin in coercing Lukashenko to support his attack and send his own people into the slaughter house. Lukashenko is not a completely unwilling partner, without Russian backing his dictatorship would soon crumble. The questions he must answer is whether it is worth it? Will his Generals and his soldiers obey him? Or (in our dreams) will he try to sit in the fence.
If Belarus invades Ukraine it adds a new country to the war. It is time for the international community to make clear to Lukashenko that if he crosses into Ukraine it will be seriously detrimental to his personal future (the thing he cares about most). Lukashenko already allowed Russia to launch their war from his country, he allows his airspace to be used by Russia to launch attacks. The presence of his forces on the border will draw much needed Ukrainian forces away from other areas. This might be the main aim.
Lukashenko is exactly the type of ruler that Putin wants to put back in charge of Ukraine; a puppet that will do his bidding.
When 100,000 Russian soldiers were sitting on Ukraine’s northern border I was screaming that they were about to invade. The media talked about the Boris’ drinks party.
It’s time to scream again. I don’t want to know about the local elections in UK or the midterms in USA I want to know what our governments are doing to warn Belarus, ‘Don’t go there!’
