Musk called for concessions to Putin to end the war in Ukraine
Russia will not withdraw troops from Ukraine and the end of the war will be possible only after concessions to Moscow, said SpaceX billionaire founder Elon Musk. “Many people have illusions when they say that Russia should completely withdraw its troops and so on, but this is unrealistic… I have been advocating peace for a long time. A few years ago, I wrote that some concessions to Russia were indeed needed. This is not a pro-Russian position. I’m just pragmatic,” Musk said in an interview with The Economist.
He also said that the front in Ukraine has not moved “for two or three years,” and “many people are dying on the front line every day,” and expressed hope that a peace agreement between the Russia and Ukraine would be reached “in the near future.” “I am very outraged by arrogant diplomats who arrange luxurious dinners while people are dying on the front line, and who rant that Russia should leave [Ukraine], but are not going to go to Russia themselves,” the entrepreneur added.
Earlier, Musk has already spoken about the need to stop the war. In March 2025, in an interview with Fox News TV, he expressed confidence that the war would end with a peace agreement, and stated that Trump’s efforts to resolve the conflict are the only plan that “will definitely work.”
Also, against the backdrop of the aggravation of relations between Kyiv and Washington in Feb last year, Musk called Zelenskyy “evil” and accused him of prolonging the war, describing it as an “endless meat grinder for corruption.”
Nevertheless, at the beginning of 2026, the billionaire, after a request from the Ukrainian authorities, blocked the Russian army from using the STARLINK satellite Internet, which made it difficult for Russian units to communicate and significantly slowed down the advance of the Russian Armed Forces. Reacting to Musk’s interview, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the billionaire to “take Starlink away” – “so that people do not die.”

Росія не виведе війська з України, і завершення війни буде можливим лише після поступок Москві, заявив мільярдер-засновник SpaceX Ілон Маск. «Багато людей мають ілюзії, коли кажуть, що Росія повинна повністю вивести свої війська тощо, але це нереально… Я давно виступаю за мир. Також, на тлі загострення відносин між Києвом і Вашингтоном у лютому минулого року, Маск назвав Зеленського «злим» і звинуватив його у затягуванні війни, описавши її як «нескінченну м’ясорубку для корупції».
Тим не менш, на початку 2026 року мільярдер, після прохання української влади, заблокував російській армії використання супутникового інтернету STARLINK, що ускладнило зв’язок російських підрозділів і значно уповільнило просування Збройних сил Росії. Реагуючи на інтерв’ю Маска, речниця МЗС Росії Марія Захарова закликала мільярдера «забрати Starlink» – «щоб люди не гинули».
