УДАР ПО ЛАВРІ НЕ БУВ ВИПАДКОВИМ

🙏 Щойно з Києво-Печерської лаври. Те, що я побачила – це не наслідки випадкового влучання.

Уночі шахеди влучили в центр покрівлі Успенського собору. Пряме влучання прийшлося у вівтарну частину собору – Стефанівський приділ. Пошкоджено екстер’єр та інтер’єр собору, а також прилеглі будівлі. На території Лаври також постраждали Скарбниця Національного музею історії України, Музей книги і друкарства України, Національна історична бібліотека України, Національна академія керівних кадрів культури і мистецтв та фондосховище Національного музею народної архітектури і побуту України. У будівлях пошкоджено вікна та двері. Жертв і постраждалих серед людей, дякувати Богу, немає. Триває оцінка завданих збитків та фіксація наслідків атаки.

Ця будівля пережила нашестя Батия, пережила підрив “совєтами” у 1941 році, вистояла в роки радянського войовничого атеїзму. Але сьогодні вона горить від російських безпілотників.

Масштабну пожежу вдалося локалізувати завдяки дощу і роботі рятувальників, однак залишається небезпека обрушення і подальшого вигорання. Під загрозою – розписи, фрески та іконостас, які становлять не лише церковну, але й національну цінність. На місці працюють рятувальники та місія ЮНЕСКО в Україні.

Києво-Печерська Лавра належить до всесвітньої спадщини ЮНЕСКО під посиленим захистом відповідно до Другого протоколу до Гаазької конвенції 1954 року. Будь-які атаки на такий об’єкт є тяжким міжнародним злочином проти світової культурної спадщини. Попри це удар стався. А значить, для захисту одних конвенцій недостатньо.

‼ Я закликаю держави-члени ЮНЕСКО публічно засудити атаку на Лавру та ініціювати екстрений розгляд питання про відповідальність росії за систематичне знищення об’єктів світової спадщини. Присутність росії в організації, мандат якої полягає у захисті культурної спадщини людства, стала абсурдом. Держави-члени повинні це назвати своїми іменами і зробити відповідні висновки: а саме виключити росії з організації.

Я хочу також повідомити, що український приватний бізнес уже почав збори на відновлення Києво-Печерської Лаври. Зокрема, Приват відкрив конверт на відновлення Лаври і вже поклав туди 2 мільйони гривень. Закликаю всіх, хто має змогу, долучатися. Згадайте, як весь світ жертвував на відновлення Нотр-Даму в Парижі у 2019-му році.

Я також вкотре прошу світ про безперервну допомогу із засобами протиповітряної оборони. Це питання не лише військове. Це питання гуманітарне.

Києво-Печерська Лавра – це місце, де в XI столітті почала формуватися духовна і культурна ідентичність нашого народу. Удар по ній – це спроба знищити саму пам’ять про те, що Україна існувала задовго до будь-яких московських претензій на “спільну історію”.

🇺🇦 Лавру буде відновлено. Україна вже не раз відновлювала те, що намагалися знищити війни та імперії. Але жодна країна не повинна самотужки захищати культурну спадщину, яка належить усьому людству. Сьогодні світ має вибір: обмежитися словами співчуття або довести, що міжнародні механізми захисту культурної спадщини справді працюють.

THE STRIKE ON THE LAVRA WAS NOT ACCIDENTAL

I have just returned from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. What I saw was not the result of an accidental strike.

During the night, Russian drones struck the center of the roof of the Dormition Cathedral. The direct hit targeted the altar section of the cathedral – the St. Stephen Chapel ((Stefanivskyi prydil). The exterior and interior of the cathedral were damaged, as well as adjacent buildings. On the territory of the Lavra, the Treasury of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, the Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine, the National Historical Library of Ukraine, the National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts, and the repository of the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine were also affected. Windows and doors were damaged in these buildings. Thank God, there were no casualties or injuries. Assessment of the damage and documentation of the consequences of the attack are ongoing.

This building survived the Mongol invasion led by Batu Khan, survived its destruction by the Soviets in 1941, and endured the years of militant Soviet atheism. Yet today it burns because of Russian drones.

The large-scale fire was contained thanks to the rain and the work of the rescue services. However, the danger of structural collapse and further burning remains. At risk are the cathedral’s murals, frescoes, and iconostasis, which constitute not only ecclesiastical but also national heritage. Emergency services and UNESCO’s mission in Ukraine are currently working on site.

The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra belongs to UNESCO World Heritage and is under enhanced protection in accordance with the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention. Any attack on such a site is a grave international crime against the world’s cultural heritage. Despite this, the strike took place. And that means that conventions alone are not enough to protect them.

I call on UNESCO Member States to publicly condemn this attack on the Lavra and to initiate an emergency review of Russia’s responsibility for the systematic destruction of World Heritage sites. Russia’s continued presence in an organization whose mandate is to protect humanity’s cultural heritage has become absurd. Member States must call things by their proper names and draw the necessary conclusions – namely, to expel Russia from the organization.

I would also like to note that Ukrainian private businesses have already begun fundraising efforts for the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. In particular, PrivatBank has opened a dedicated fundraising campaign for the restoration of the Lavra and has already contributed UAH 2 million. I urge everyone who is able to contribute. Let us remember how people around the world donated to the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris in 2019.

Once again, I appeal to the international community for sustained support with air defense systems. This is not only a military issue. It is a humanitarian one.

The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is the place where, in the eleventh century, the spiritual and cultural identity of our nation began to take shape. A strike against it is an attempt to erase the very memory that Ukraine existed long before any Moscow claims to a so-called “shared history.”

The Lavra will be restored. Ukraine has rebuilt what wars and empires sought to destroy many times before. But no country should be left alone to protect cultural heritage that belongs to all humanity. Today, the world faces a choice: limit itself to words of sympathy, or prove that international mechanisms for the protection of cultural heritage truly work.
