The first year of the war made significant adjustments to the ranking of the richest people in Ukraine in terms of capital. The business assets of many Forbes 2022 leaders are either destroyed, occupied, partially damaged or in financial trouble. Many corporations and companies are in survival mode, looking for opportunities to relocate, restore supply chains, enter foreign markets, and are also looking for new suppliers, contractors and consumers of products or services.
The market capitalization of Ukrainian public companies sometimes falls below the liquidation value of the assets. There is a predictable lull in the M&A market of Ukraine, which will not soon be replaced by a revival, at least while Russian missiles are flying towards Ukraine.
In 2022, Forbes ranked only the TOP-20 richest Ukrainians. The value of their assets compared with the beginning of February 2022 fell by almost 50%, by more than $20 billion, to $22.5 billion.
It should be noted that there is a continuing trend of changing elites in the Forbes rating, so 6 entrepreneurs who have earned their fortune in the “knowledge and IT economy” have already got into the TOP-20 Forbes 2022, practically without intersecting with the Ukrainian state.
