A HISTORICAL VICTORY
Those of us who receive our information through national media outlets might be forgiven for thinking that it is getting quiet on the Ukraine/Russian front. Nothing could be further from the truth. The war continues with increasing intensity. Any ‘lull’ in the news is because there are no new exciting offensives to focus on, no new atrocities large enough to capture the imagination of editors.
People are still dying in their hundreds every day. True, the cold has slowed down the action, but Wagner troops in Bakhmut are throwing everything they have at what is left of the town. First, they throw in new conscripts to absorb Ukrainian ammunition then they throw in artillery, after which they hope to walk in and mop up the rubble. Expensive in men and materiel, this tactic has been unsuccessful for months. Lost for any operational plan they simply feed more men into the grinder.
There is a new Ukrainian offensive coming but quite rightly, no one should know where, not the Russians, not the Ukrainian soldiers and especially not the press. Frost is hardening the ground, Ukraine has more tanks and support vehicles now than when the war started compliments of retreating Russian forces.
Russia has already lost the military campaign which is why they concentrate their ever-diminishing supply of missiles at the power grid. It is certain that this will not break the resolve of the Ukrainian people. It is also important that we do not break our resolve to support them.
In a few months the oil price cap combined with primary and secondary sanctions will bite even harder. If Putin doesn’t retreat his whole economy will collapse. He might have oil to sell, but there are not enough tankers in the world to move it. Europe is closing its purse, China is showing signs of a recession, India has filled its storage facilities with cheap fuel. The market is closing.
Hard as it might seem to those suffering Ukraine is on the brink of an historical victory.

ІСТОРИЧНА ПЕРЕМОГА
Тим із нас, хто отримує інформацію через національні ЗМІ, можна пробачити за думку, що на українсько-російському фронті стає тихо. Ніщо не може бути дальшим від істини. Війна триває з наростаючою інтенсивністю. Будь-яке «затишшя» в новинах пояснюється тим, що немає нових захоплюючих нападів, на яких можна було б зосередитися, немає нових звірств, достатньо великих, щоб захопити уяву редакторів.
Люди все ще вмирають сотнями щодня. Правда, холод загальмував дії, але війська Вагнера в Бахмуті кидають усе, що мають, на те, що залишилося від міста. Спочатку вони кидають нових призовників для поглинання українських боєприпасів, потім кидають артилерію, після чого сподіваються зайти та розчистити завали. Ця тактика, дорога в людях і техніці, була безуспішною протягом кількох місяців. Втрачені для будь-якого оперативного плану, вони просто пускають більше людей у жорна.
Наближається новий український наступ, але цілком справедливо, ніхто не повинен знати, де, ні росіяни, ні українські солдати, а особливо преса. Мороз твердить землю, зараз в Україні більше танків і техніки підтримки, ніж коли почалася війна, відступаючих російських військ.
Росія вже програла військову кампанію, тому вони зосереджують свої усе менші запаси ракет на енергосистемі. Безумовно, це не зламає рішучості українського народу. Також важливо, щоб ми не порушили нашу рішучість підтримувати їх.
За кілька місяців обмеження цін на нафту в поєднанні з первинними та вторинними санкціями кусатиметься ще сильніше. Якщо Путін не відступить, вся його економіка завалиться. Можливо, у нього є нафта для продажу, але в світі недостатньо танкерів, щоб її транспортувати. Європа закриває гаманець, Китай демонструє ознаки рецесії, Індія заповнила свої сховища дешевим пальним. Ринок закривається.
Як би важко це не здавалося стражденним, Україна стоїть на порозі історичної перемоги.
