About mass fireworks in European cities on New Year’s Eve
If the EU countries do not join Ukraine in collective self-defense this year, then next year the war will come to their territory, says Valeriy Chaly, former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States.
Mass fireworks in European cities on New Year’s Eve testify not so much to the traditional joyful mood in countries that are not at war, but to relaxation and illusions of security.
If any of the citizens of the EU countries, especially Ukraine’s neighbors, have created illusions that the Russian aggression is ending, that the offensive will stop, the newly elected US President has all the leverage, and everything will end on the territory of Ukraine, then there are many arguments to disappoint them.
Firstly, the Russian regime has hostile goals not only towards Ukraine, but also towards the whole of Europe. And they will definitely not change. After all, the Russian regime, on the eve of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine in mid-December 2021, sent its ultimatum to Brussels and Washington, not to Kyiv.
Secondly, such a “peace” desired by everyone (at the expense of territories and the surrender of Ukraine), or rather, a temporary ceasefire, will result in the return to rotation of tens or hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers who receive monetary compensation for their crimes and have already smelled the smell of blood, impunity, and courage. They will be sent, if not as mercenaries to Africa, then to Belarus – to the border with Poland and Lithuania, closer to Estonia and Finland.
Thirdly, America is far away, and it is easier to consider different scenarios there, and the EU countries are within the flight distance of a strike drone (now there are hundreds of drones), not to mention the presence of common borders with the barbarians of the 21st century, both maritime and land.
Fourth, the world is only at the beginning of a series of local and regional conflicts and wars, and the EU and NATO countries in Europe are unlikely to be able to concentrate more resources than they do now, when there is a chance to stop the aggressor outside their territories.
Fifth, taking into account recent examples of attacks on communications in Europe and the subversive Russian activity, which is only increasing, one can imagine what will happen next if the aggressor gets a pause in its reinforcement and the sanctions pressure on the economy is reduced. Does anyone have any illusions that the freed resources will go to increase the well-being of Russians?!
Therefore, there can be only one conclusion: if the countries of Europe do not unite with Ukraine in an armed coalition to counter the aggressor, if they do not triple their efforts this year and, as would be correct and in accordance with the UN Charter, do not use collective self-defense against the Russian Federation, the war will come directly to them, to their territory. And don’t go to a fortune teller. And then they will definitely not be in the mood for fireworks.

Про масові феєрверки в європейських містах у новорічну ніч
Якщо цього року країни ЄС не приєднаються до колективної самооборони України, то наступного року війна прийде на їхню територію, вважає екс-посол України в США Валерій Чалий.
Масові феєрверки в європейських містах у новорічну ніч свідчать не стільки про традиційний радісний настрій у країнах, які не воюють, скільки про розслабленість та ілюзії безпеки.
Якщо хтось із громадян країн ЄС, особливо сусідів України, створив ілюзії, що російська агресія закінчується, що наступ припиниться, то у новообраного президента США є всі важелі впливу, і все закінчиться на території України, тоді є багато аргументів, щоб їх розчарувати.
По-перше, російський режим має ворожі цілі не лише щодо України, а й щодо всієї Європи. І точно не зміняться. Адже російський режим напередодні масштабного вторгнення в Україну в середині грудня 2021 року направив свій ультиматум Брюсселю та Вашингтону, а не Києву.
По-друге, такий бажаний усіма «мир» (за рахунок територій і капітуляції України), а точніше, тимчасове припинення вогню призведе до повернення на ротацію десятків чи сотень тисяч російських військових, які отримають грошову компенсацію. за свої злочини і вже відчули запах крові, безкарності та мужності. Їх відправлять якщо не найманцями в Африку, то в Білорусь – до кордону з Польщею та Литвою, ближче до Естонії та Фінляндії.
По-третє, Америка далеко, і там легше розглядати різні сценарії, і країни ЄС знаходяться в зоні польоту ударного безпілотника (зараз там сотні безпілотників), не кажучи вже про наявність спільних кордонів з варварами. 21 століття, як морські, так і сухопутні.
По-четверте, світ лише на початку серії локальних і регіональних конфліктів і воєн, і країни ЄС і НАТО в Європі навряд чи зможуть сконцентрувати більше ресурсів, ніж зараз, коли є шанс зупинити агресора за межами своєї території.
По-п’яте, враховуючи останні приклади атак на комунікації в Європі та підривну російську активність, яка лише посилюється, можна уявити, що буде далі, якщо агресор отримає паузу у своєму посиленні та зменшить санкційний тиск на економіку. Хтось має ілюзії, що вивільнені ресурси підуть на зростання добробуту росіян?!
Тому висновок може бути лише один: якщо країни Європи не об’єднаються з Україною у збройну коаліцію для протидії агресору, якщо цього року не потроять свої зусилля і, як було б правильно і відповідно до Статуту ООН, не використовуйте колективну самооборону проти РФ, війна прийде безпосередньо до них, на їх територію. І не ходіть до ворожки. І тоді у них точно не буде феєрверкового настрою.
