Russia has dismantled the Great Famine monument in the occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol. According to russians, since there was no “disastrous” famine in Ukraine, there is no need in the monument.
1932–1932, approximately 5 million Ukrainians died of starvation due to the Great Famine, provoked by the Soviet government.
Kremlin had two major goals then: 1) eliminate any potential for the nationalistic movements in Ukraine; 2) refill the Soviet’s budget. Both goals were “well” achieved. 5 million Ukrainians died, mostly in grain-producing regions. Kremlin managed to collect about 70 tons of gold and valuables from Ukrainians in exchange to tiny portions of bread, flour or grain.
People were dying of starvation right on the streets of Ukrainian cities and villages, while Moscow kept living as usual.
Genocide in 1932, genocide now.
